Been super busy lately. I moved this past weekend and my computer isn’t setup yet so I’m on my laptop which isn’t so bad except that my resolution maxes out at 1024×768 and I’m used to my 24″ monitor that runs 1900×1200. The laptop is an older Thinkpad T40. It works great, except for the aforementioned low resolution.
Moving got me thinking about change. Change is hard but it’s something I relish. It’s been a while since I’ve had a big change in my life and this move is good for me. It’s difficult because I love my place so much. I still get sad about it when I really sit down and think about it. Fortunately, I haven’t had much time to just sit and do nothing.
I need to remind myself to change things more often. It doesn’t have to be a big change, but just making a change and making the effort is important I believe.
I feel like it keeps your mind fresh and elastic. Routine is nice but it dulls the mind.
My current change, only putting one space in between the period and the start of the next sentence when typing. It’s a hard change to make considering I’ve been typing for about 16 years now and that’s a long habit to break.
Here are some links on why you should use one space or two.

I think most people who drive on the freeways in California probably know about www.sigalert.com. Now, there’s a new site called www.mycaliforniatraffic.com that uses google maps to display similar information so it’s a little bit more web 2.0.

I guess a lot of people don’t know about this but you can opt yourself out of those credit card offers you get in your mail.
I used to get credit card offers on a daily basis, at least one a day, sometimes two or three in a day and it would always be from the same companies.
I opted out of the offers and now the only offers I get are from the companies I already have cards with.
It took about 3 weeks but it literally cut out about 80% of my junk mail, plus it’s good for the environment.
So opt out of those credit card offers now.

Stupid cats. I don’t really hate cats, I’m just severely allergic to them.

When number portability for cell phones was introduced late 2003, early 2004, it was a great move for consumers. You could switch carriers and not think about having to call every single one of your friends to let them know about your new number. It basically allowed you to have a number for life.
I believe it was also around the same time that they started introducing the 2 year cell phone contract. Get a 2 year contract and save extra money on the phone. I believe 1 year was the norm back then. Then, the 1 year contract started disappearing, it was the providers way of locking you back into their system.
These days, it’s really difficult to get a 1 year contract. Try going to Cingular or T-Mobile’s website. Everything on there is a 2 year contract. Sure, you can still get a 1 year contract, but you have to call them and then no deals on the phones at all. Not even a prorated discount. I think Verizon is the only one that has a 1 year option on their website.
I’m writing all this because my phone is dying. My 2 year contract is ending sometime in October, which leaves me about 2 months from now. I don’t need a 1 year contract, I’ll be happy with an 18 month contract. How about giving consumers a choice? I’ll gladly pay a little bit more for the phone if I can get an 18 month contract.
I don’t think anything is going to change from now until October when I’ll be signing another 2 year contract, but it’s nice to dream at least.
