Alarm Clocks

I really should write more but I’ve been lazy. Can’t let a month go by without writing a post.
I’ve decided to write about alarm clocks and being frugal.
I’ve owned 2 alarm clocks in my life but only 1 was bought. The first one was a hand me down from an uncle.
The first one was really old, I’m talking about built in the early 80’s I’m guessing, had wood veneer trim on it old. It was also a beast, about the size of those old analog cable boxes.
Sometime around 2000 or so, I decided I wanted something a little more modern, something sleek, something for the 21st century. I threw out the old alarm that was working perfectly fine and bought myself something new. I think I spent about $20 on it.
That was about 6 years ago.
Which comes to my second alarm clock which I’m still using.
It’s not like I don’t want to buy a new one, there’s always a new model out that does something better. I want something that’ll let me set a different alarm for different days. Mon-Fri alarm for work and a weekend alarm. I want a model that I can hook up an MP3 player to. I want something with a digital radio tuner so I can have presets. There are hundreds of things I want in an alarm clock that mine doesn’t currently do.
However, my alarm clock will not die and I don’t ever expect it to.
Which I’m trying to tie into the other thing I was going to talk about, being frugal.
I could go out and buy a new alarm clock, something fancy with all the features I want. It probably wouldn’t even cost that much.
But I just can’t do it, it’s hard to spend money on something to replace something you already have that works perfectly fine.
Does that mean I’m frugal or just cheap? I don’t know but it lets me link to that article and how it says only 15% of modern Americans can be considered frugal.
I’ll probably wait another 10 years or so before I replace the current alarm clock and I bet it’ll still be working then.

[...] I’ve posted about alarm clocks before and how they never break and how cheap I am and I won’t go out and spend money on something because mine works just fine. However, that is before I heard about the Chumby. It has a screen on it, it’s hackable, wifi enabled, I can control it from my computer! It sounds like a computer geeks dream alarm clock. Like if you took a bunch of geeks and told them to design an alarm clock, this is what you get. Which incidentally is exactly how the Chumby came about. Here are a couple more links about Chumby.
